Douglas Chanco is a second-generation litigation attorney who devoted his career to the pursuit of one goal: to help people when they need it the most. In order to achieve this goal Douglas chose to limit his practice to only representing individuals who were hurt by other people.
Douglas has worked his entire career with drug and alcohol cases. He began his legal career by serving as an assistant-solicitor general in the Fulton County State Court in Atlanta, Georgia. In this position, Douglas tried and successfully prosecuted numerous DUI and other criminal/traffic cases.
After prosecuting people charged with DUI, Douglas worked as a criminal defense attorney. In that position he successfully defended people charged with DUI and authored the text, “Defense of Your Georgia DUI Case: What to Know, What to Do”. Douglas Chanco was also elected to serve as president of the Forsyth County criminal defense bar.
While mastering the scientific knowledge necessary to prosecute and defend DUI cases, Douglas obtained certification from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration as an instructor for standardized field sobriety testing. This training, which is identical to the education police officers receive, allows him to fully understand and explain to the trier of fact in your case about the administered field sobriety tests used on the at-fault driver in your Georgia DUI accident injury. Furthermore, Douglas also trained in the drug recognition expert program that deals with prescription drugs and illegal drugs. Douglas is one of only a few attorneys in the area that knows the science behind prosecuting DUI, defending DUI, and bringing a civil action against the impaired driver who injured you. Having Douglas know both sides of DUI accident cases will be an advantage when presenting evidence on your behalf.
Douglas graduated from The Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida with a Bachelors of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice in merely two and a half years. He received his Juris Doctor from Florida Coastal School of Law, in Jacksonville, Florida and was selected as a Dean’s Scholar twice.
In 2013, Douglas was chosen from a large pool of applicants as one of only fifty attorneys around the country to be admitted to the Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College. This program in Dubois, Wyoming specializes in trial advocacy work, and is attended and taught by the nation’s most successful trial lawyers.
Douglas is an active member of his community both as a mock trial team coach for the Georgia Bar Association’s High School Mock Trial program and also achieving the rank of Eagle Scout while a member of the Boy Scouts of America. He has also been a guest lecturer on topics presented at Atlanta law schools and featured on legal radio shows discussing the rights of injury victims.
Douglas is admitted to the practice of law in both Georgia and New York. He is also admitted before the Georgia Supreme Court and the Georgia Court of Appeals, and the United States District Court.
